Heyline vs Abby: minutes by plan, or by person.
Abby Connect puts US-based human receptionists and AI answering on one shared plan. Heyline is the AI half only, self-serve, and you can talk to your own receptionist in the browser before you sign up.

Which one fits a small shop: Heyline or Abby?
Abby Connect (Abby) is a human answering service that now sells AI answering out of the same pot of minutes, where one AI minute costs half a human one. Heyline sells only the AI part: a lower entry price, more talk time in the plan, and a test drive you run yourself first.
Prices checked September 2, 2026 on each vendor's own pages. Abby publishes one table covering both halves of the service. It starts at $165 a month for 50 Abby Minutes, which their pricing page says is 50 minutes of a person, or up to 100 minutes of their AI. Heyline Starter is $99 a month and includes 200 minutes on one business.
So this is not a tie at the entry price. It is $99 a month for 200 minutes against $165 a month for up to 100 AI minutes, before you count the calendar booking, transcripts and email recaps included at that price. What the difference buys on Abby's side is people, and for some shops that is worth more than the minutes.
How do the two plan tables line up?
Heyline's figures are our own published prices. Abby's come from their pricing, signup and integrations pages, and each cell carries the page it came from and the day it was read.

Prices in USD. Both companies use the plan names Starter and Growth, and they do not mean the same thing — Abby's Growth is their largest published plan, Heyline's is the middle one. Abby figures checked September 2, 2026.

What does Abby Connect do well?
More than a price row shows. Abby does not gate features by tier: their site puts appointment booking, English and Spanish answering, round-the-clock coverage with no after-hours upcharge, encrypted recordings and their whole integration list on every plan, month-to-month, with no setup fee. Their scheduling reach is wider than ours — Google Calendar, Calendly and Acuity among them — and they say they will build a missing integration during onboarding at no charge.
The bigger thing is the one no AI-only product can answer. Abby's AI can warm-transfer a live caller to a US-based receptionist mid-call, on the same plan, out of the same minutes. Heyline has no transfer to a person, at any price. If the calls that hurt are the ones that need someone to calm a customer down, that is worth paying for.
One caveat cuts our way and we will state it carefully: Abby publishes no help center or technical pages, so nothing first-party describes how their booking checks your free time. We cannot tell you it is shallower than ours, and we will not.
What does a minute actually cost on each side?
Divide each published plan by the minutes it includes. On Abby's table an AI minute works out between $1.38 and $1.65, and a human minute between $2.76 and $3.30. Heyline's included minutes work out at $0.50 on Starter, $0.40 on Growth and $0.33 on Scale.
Overage is where the two part company. Abby publishes a policy but no dollar rate: extra minutes bill at your plan's own Abby Minute rate, and you can move up a plan at any time. Heyline has no per-minute overage. You get an email at 80% of your minutes, and at 100% a $10 top-up adds 20 more automatically, with a monthly spend cap you can set on our pricing page.
Pick on what your calls actually are. The typical home-services shop books 42% of its inbound calls (ServiceTitan platform data, 3,000+ US/CA trade shops, 2022), and shops with fewer than five technicians book 24%. If what you are dropping is ordinary booking calls, the cheaper minute is most of the argument, and you can hear how she handles one before you commit to either.
What does a Saturday morning call sound like?
Saturday, 8:12 AM
Morning — half the outlets in my basement are dead. Is that something you handle?
We do, and that is usually one circuit. I can get an electrician out to look at it. Which part of town are you in?
Riverbend, on Cassia Street. Any idea what something like that runs?
I don't have a price for that in my notes, so I won't guess — the visit itself is a free estimate. I have Monday at 9 AM or Monday at 1 PM. Which suits you?
Nine works, please. It is Ben Alvarez.
Booked. Monday, 9 AM, for Ben Alvarez, and your callback number is five-oh-three, five-five-five, oh-one-four-eight — the one you are calling from. It is on the calendar now, and the shop gets the recap by email.
Booked — Monday, 9 AM, dead basement outlets on Cassia Street. Event in the shop's Google Calendar, recap by email.

What she never does, on any plan
She never quotes a price that is not in her notes. If your rate is not written down, she offers a free estimate and moves the call on.
She never transfers a caller to a person. Abby can; Heyline cannot. When she can't help, she takes a name and a number and opens a to-do for you to call back.
She never gives medical, legal or health-safety advice, and she never takes card details — if a caller starts reading one out, she stops them.
She never hides what she is. Every greeting says she is an AI and that the call may be recorded, and that line cannot be edited out.
She never books further out than 14 days, and never sooner than an hour from now. A caller who wants a date past that window is told the limit and the last day she can book.
Frequently asked questions
Which Abby plan compares with Heyline Starter?
On price, none of them: Abby's cheapest published plan is $165 a month and Heyline Starter is $99. On talk time their Starter is nearest — 50 Abby Minutes, which their pricing page says buys up to 100 minutes of AI answering. Heyline Starter includes 200 minutes on one business, with calendar booking, transcripts and email recaps at the same price.
Does Abby have a browser demo?
No. Their site publishes pre-recorded sample calls, and their own framing is that you sign up, forward your line, and hear the AI answer your real calls during the trial — which means choosing a paid plan and entering payment details first. Heyline builds a receptionist from your website and lets you talk to her in your browser, no account, no card.
Can I move from AI answering to a human service?
With Abby, yes — that is the point of the shared minutes: their AI can hand a live caller to a US-based receptionist, and one plan pays for both. Heyline cannot. She is AI end to end, with no transfer to a person. When she reaches the edge of her notes, she takes a message and opens a to-do.
What is an Abby Minute?
It is Abby's shared billing unit. Their pricing page states that one Abby Minute equals one minute of human answering or two minutes of AI answering, so a 50-minute plan is 50 human minutes, up to 100 AI minutes, or a mix of the two. Heyline meters plain minutes: one minute of talk time is one minute, on every call.
Does Abby's free trial ask for a card?
Yes. Their signup page selects a paid plan and takes payment details, with $0 due today, a 14-day free trial, and a 22-day money-back guarantee after it ends. Heyline's trial is also 14 days with a card on file and 60 minutes included, but building a receptionist and testing her in your browser comes before any of that, and costs nothing.
