What's the real difference between Heyline and Goodcall?
Both answer every call with an AI receptionist you set up yourself. Goodcall sells unlimited talk time and bills by how many different people call you. Heyline sells minutes, and every plan books the job into your Google Calendar while the caller is still on the phone.
Prices checked September 2, 2026. Every Goodcall figure on this page was read that day from their own pricing page and help center, and each one carries its source and date where it appears. Nothing here comes from a review site, a roundup or a screenshot.
So the choice isn't about who answers. It's about which meter matches your phone, and what you want true at the end of a call — a link the caller still has to open, or a time already in the calendar you check every morning.
The go-live story is the same on both sides. Neither company ports your number — you keep your line, forward the calls you can't take, and she picks up on a number of her own.
How do the two compare, line by line?

Whose meter is kinder to a busy phone?
Give Goodcall this one plainly: unlimited minutes and tokens on every paid plan beats any metered plan for a shop that talks a lot, and on raw talk time our 200-minute entry plan loses that comparison. They count unique customers rather than calls — someone who phones ten times in a month counts once, and they state that robocalls, blocked numbers and silent callers don't count at all. At $79 a month per agent, with no lead form in front of the price, they undercut Heyline Starter at $99 a month.
The counter is what a minute is for. Our trial's 60 minutes runs to about 25 real calls, each able to end with a job on your calendar; Starter carries 200 minutes a month on the same meter. Their published prices are per agent; ours pool across your businesses.
Pick on the shape of your phone, not on the adjective: long calls and repeat regulars suit their meter, short calls that must end in a booked time suit ours.
What happens when a caller asks for an appointment?
On a Heyline call she checks your Google Calendar first, offers two or three times that are genuinely open, takes the name and callback number, writes the event, and reads all four back before anyone hangs up. Nothing sooner than an hour out, nothing further than 14 days.
Goodcall's documentation lists four ways their agent can answer an appointment question, and names the first as the default: point the caller to the website, with an option to text them a booking link. Their appointment docs name no Google Calendar or Calendly connection. One integration genuinely does write appointments — Boulevard, for wellness businesses on that system — though their guide doesn't say the agent checks open slots during the call.
Across 3,000+ US and Canadian trade businesses, ServiceTitan's 2022 platform data put the typical shop's booking rate at 42%, and at 24% for shops running fewer than five technicians. Every step between “I'd like a time” and a time on the calendar is another place a caller can drift.
What does that sound like on the phone?
Sat · 9:20 AM — incoming call · you're across town on a fridge call
My dryer's grinding every time it spins. Can you text me a link to pick a time?
We don't send texts — but I can book it with you right now. Ann has Monday at 11 AM or Monday at 2 PM open.
Monday at eleven, then.
And is 604-555-0142, the number you're calling from, the best one for Ann to reach you?
That's the one. Marcus Hale.
Booked, Marcus — Monday at 11 AM, callback 604-555-0142. It's on Ann's calendar now.
9:21 AM — on Ann's Google Calendar: Dryer repair — Marcus Hale (604-555-0142)

What Heyline won't do, and Goodcall might
She never sends a text. No booking links, no confirmations, no reminders — Heyline has no SMS of any kind. If a texted link is genuinely what your callers want, that's a point for them, not for us.
She never transfers a caller to you. There's no warm handoff here. Goodcall's appointment documentation lists transferring the call to your business number as one of its four options; Heyline takes a message instead, and opens a call-back to-do the moment it's saved.
She never quotes a price that isn't in her notes. She offers a free estimate and takes the details, rather than guessing at a number you'd have to walk back later. She never takes card details either — if a caller starts reading one out, she stops them.
She never speaks anything but English, and she works in the United States and Canada only. Goodcall's help center states they are currently available in the USA, with international numbers still on a waitlist.
Frequently asked questions
Does Goodcall book appointments in real time?
Their plan table lists no calendar booking on any tier, and their help center names texting the caller a booking link as the default answer to an appointment question. One integration, Boulevard, does write appointments for wellness businesses on that system, though their guide doesn't say the agent checks open slots mid-call. We read all of that on their own pages on September 2, 2026.
Is Goodcall's unlimited talk time better than a monthly minute allowance?
Sometimes, honestly. If your calls run long and your phone rarely stops, an unlimited-minute plan wins on raw talk time and ours doesn't. Heyline Starter includes 200 minutes a month and adds 20 more for $10 whenever you run out. The question worth asking is what the meter buys you: more room to talk, or a booked job at the end of it.
Which one has a free trial?
Heyline's is 14 days on the plan you choose, card required, with 60 minutes included. Goodcall publishes no trial length anywhere on their site — the words appear only in their pricing page's browser title, never in the page itself. Their help center describes a free Demo plan for one user that comes with no agent number, so it can't take a live call.
What counts as a unique customer on Goodcall's plans?
Their term, not ours, and it's a fair one. They bill by how many different people call you in a month rather than by talk time, so someone who phones ten times still counts once, and they state that robocalls, blocked numbers and callers who never speak are excluded. Past your plan's allowance, each extra person carries a flat fee published on their pricing page.
Is Goodcall available in Canada?
Their help center states that Goodcall is currently available in the USA, and points everyone else to a waitlist for international numbers. We read that on September 2, 2026, on an article dated April 2024, so check it yourself before you decide. Heyline works in the United States and Canada, in English, with 14 US and Canada timezones in the settings picker.
