Which voice will your callers hear?

The one you pick from 15 curated voices — American or British, male or female. Heyline chooses a fitting one while she's being built, so she can talk the moment she exists. You listen to previews, swap voices in a couple of clicks, and test the new one in your browser before any caller hears it.

We write "she" across this site because it reads better than a shrug. It isn't fixed. Pick a male voice and the product follows your pick — the call button reads Talk to him, and that's the voice on your line.

She's built from your website in about sixty seconds — about 25 seconds on average across 26 real business websites in our July 2026 test — and she comes back with a voice already chosen for the kind of business your site describes. That way the first thing you do is listen, not shop for a voice.

How do you change her voice?

It takes about as long as playing two previews.

  1. Open her voice settings

There's nothing to set up first. She already has a voice, so this is a change, not a decision you have to make before she works.

  2. Filter down to what you want

The shortlist is 15 voices. Filter by accent — American or British — and by gender. Each card shows gender, accent and age, so you're not guessing from a name.

  3. Play the previews

Every voice has a preview. Listen to two or three back to back; the differences are obvious in about ten seconds.

  4. Save, then talk to her again

Re-testing in your browser is free and needs no card, so you hear the new voice on a whole call — greeting, questions, booking — before a customer does.

Decide with your ears — not a sales deck.

Paste your website and talk to your own receptionist, free, in your browser.

What can you change about how she sounds?

All of it lives in her settings, in plain language, alongside everything else she knows. None of it changes what you pay.

How do you pick a voice for your shop?

Nobody hears a voice the way your customer does. Two minutes of this beats a week of second-guessing.

  • Play the previews on the phone you'd hear her on, not on laptop speakers.
  • Play them once with your usual noise going — a compressor, a van, a vacuum.
  • Pick the accent your customers hear when they call other local businesses.
  • Say her name out loud with your business name after it. If it's a mouthful, try the next one.
  • Ask whoever answers the phone today. They'll have an opinion in four seconds.
  • Then stop picking and go talk to her. A whole call tells you more than six previews.

What happens when a caller asks who they're talking to?

Tue · 11:40 AM — incoming call · the greeting has already played

Caller

Hang on — is this a person?

Heyline

It isn't. I'm Nathan, the AI front desk here at Marlowe Hair Co. What can I book you in for?

Caller

A cut and color, some time later this week. It's Camille.

Heyline

Thanks, Camille. I have Thursday at 2 PM or Friday at 10 AM. Is 778-555-0154 — the phone you're on right now — the best way to reach you?

Caller

Thursday, and that number's fine.

Heyline

Booked, Camille — Thursday at 2 PM, cut and color, and I have you at 778-555-0154.

What a Heyline voice never does

No cloning. She can't be made to sound like you, your partner, or the receptionist who left. There are 15 voices and you pick one of them.

No premium tier. Every voice is on Starter, Growth and Scale at the same price. Which voice you choose never moves your bill.

No pretending. She is never presented as a real person. The greeting says she's an AI and that the call may be recorded, and that line can't be edited out.

One language. She answers in English — the FAQ covers languages.

No shop talk. Ask her what she runs on and she won't discuss the technology behind her — she gets back to booking the job.

Frequently asked questions

Can I clone my own voice?

No. Heyline doesn't clone voices — not yours, not a staff member's, not anyone's. You pick from 15 curated voices instead, all of them on Starter, Growth and Scale. It keeps the call honest, too: the voice on your line is a stock voice, and the greeting says she's an AI.

Can I change the voice later?

Yes, as often as you like. Open her settings, filter the 15 voices by accent and gender, play a preview and save. Then talk to her in your browser to hear the new voice on a full call — testing is free and needs no card. Her hours, her services and everything she knows are untouched.

Does she say her name?

Yes. She introduces herself with a human first name; Sarah is the house default. The name is picked when she's built, and you can change it to whatever suits your shop. The greeting that carries her name also tells the caller she's an AI and that the call may be recorded.

How the AI disclosure works

Which accents are available?

American and British. Those are the two accents in the 15-voice shortlist, and you can filter by either, then by male or female. The accent is labeled on every card rather than implied by the voice's name. No accent costs more than another — all 15 are on Starter, Growth and Scale.
